Flowers of the Month – Spring!

Updated: Oct 21, 2020

Spring is in the air and we love everything about Spring flowers – the bright colours, the sweet scents, the glorious variety to choose from and that you can grow most of them yourself in your garden from bulbs with little effort!

The Hyacinth arrived in Europe in around 1560 from Turkey, Syria and Lebanon and is named after a Greek word relating to purple.

Daffodils or Narcissi grew wild in meadows, forests and rocky places in Southern Europe, North Africa and the Mediterranean. The exact origin of the name Narcissus is unknown, but it is often linked to a Greek word for intoxicated ‘narcotic’ as they are poisonous if ingested and the myth of the man of the same name who fell in love with his own reflection.

To really capture the feeling of Spring in a vase, don’t be afraid to use all the available colours together.   A clear cylindrical vase gives a contemporary feel and puts the spotlight on the flowers, offering enough room for a large number of stems.

An arrangement of single stems is also effective, in mismatched jars and bottles of different heights and sizes.

We would love to know your favourite Spring flower and how you like to display them in your home!
